All members are invited to participate in one of our committees, Pros & Cons, Candidate Forums, Youth Voter Initiative, Voter Outreach and Registration, described below.

These committees are at the core of our mission, empowering voters and defending democracy, by bringing essential information that voters need, especially during election season.

No experience is necessary; we provide training and all the essential tools you need to participate, but if you have special expertise (or want to develop skills) in public speaking, information technology/data processing, Powerpoint/Canva, organizational leadership, we need you!

Candidate Forums

LWVNCSD is a well-respected resource for moderating and facilitating fair, non-partisan candidate forums. Candidate Forums are one of the few opportunities voters have to engage directly with candidates to hear and see candidates present their platform and respond to questions submitted by the public on issues that concern them.

Every election season, members have an opportunity to participate in candidate forums in a variety of functions: as moderators, timekeepers, question sorters as well as other support positions. All training is provided. Please contact our Candidate Forums lead for more information or to join the team: candidateforums@lwvncsd.org.

Members of the community who would like to request a candidate forum for a local race (city council, school board, County Board of Supervisor, etc.) should fill out and submit the request form:

Request a Pros & Cons Presentation

One of the most popular programs offered by the League, Pros and Cons Presentations provide a nonpartisan, unbiased explanation of each state and local ballot initiative to help voters understand the often complicated details of propositions. We cover the financial impact of the proposition, who the key supporters and opponents are, as well as the amount of money that has been spent to support or oppose the measure.

Volunteers on this committee

research on the propositions,
help with developing the slide presentation (one for each ballot measure),
provide administrative assistance with scheduling, and, of course,
make Pros & Cons presentations to the public either in person or on Zoom.

All training is provided, and you will find this activity rewarding and fun.

Voter Outreach

Our Voter Service team staffs voter registration events throughout North County, focusing on communities with lower participation rates in the election process including homeless, formerly incarcerated, and minority populations.

Voter registration training is also available for community organizations wishing to educate and/or train their members and staff to register eligible voters.

Members can volunteer on an as needed basis for these events. Email Voter Services if you'd like to volunteer on this team so you can be contacted when we have the need.

If you are part of a community organization that serves individuals interested in registering to vote or in need of ballot information, email Voter Services to set up a voter registration and education event.

Youth Voter Initiative

Email YVI

The YVI team is focused on increasing voter turnout and civic engagement in young people through creative activities and educational outreach in local high schools, community colleges and universities. We educate young people on why their vote matters and how to make their voices heard.

New in 2026, YVI will launch a Youth Voting Ambassador program at select high schools. Youth Voting Ambassadors will receive training and a League mentor to support them to be peer-to-peer advocates on the importance of voting and civic engagement.

Vote 411 is a leading digital platform dedicated to electoral information. This intuitive interface allows voters to research candidates, understand ballot measures and prepare to vote confidently.

Our volunteers help to maintain and update the platform so that voters can have access to the most comprehensive and up-to-date information so they can make an informed choice.
