About Our Speaker
Terra Lawson-Remer serves as Chair of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, leading a county of 3.3 million people with a budget of more than $8 billion. She made history in 2020 by defeating a longtime incumbent, and successfully defended her seat against a formidable challenge by the former mayor of San Diego in 2024.
An economist, attorney, grassroots organizer, and educator, Terra has dedicated her career to advancing economic fairness and environmental sustainability. After earning a B.A. from Yale, she completed both a law degree and PhD at NYU. Her globally award-winning book, Fulfilling Social and Economic Rights, earned the prestigious Grawemeyer Award for Ideas Improving World Order and was recognized as a best book in Political Science in 2016.
